: Alkanet (Alkanna tinctoria), also known as the dyer's alkanet, is a plant belonging to the family Boraginaceae and endemic to the coastal areas of the eastern Mediterranean. The flowers stand out because of their special blue-purple color and the roots because of their deep red color. The root produces a substance that is widely used as a natural pigment in cosmetics, foods, wines and liquors, as well as for painting wood, stone. The carrot as a colorant is soluble in alcohol and oil, but insoluble in water. It is used in traditional Indian food under the name Ratan Jot and adds its red color to some versions of Curry. It is also used as a vegetable.Alkanet Gedroogde Wortel 85g - 1,95kg Alkanna tinctoria (85 gram) : Alkanet (Alkanna tinctoria), ook bekend als het alkanet van de verver, is een plant die behoort tot de familie Boraginaceae en endemisch is in de kustgebieden van de oostelijke Middellandse Zee. De bloemen vallen op door hun bijzondere blauwpaarse kleur en de wortel door het dieprode. Uit de wortel wordt een stof geproduceerd die veel wordt gebruikt als natuurlijk pigment in cosmetica, voedingsmiddelen, wijnen en likeuren, maar ook voor het schilderen van hout, steen. De wortel als kleurstof is oplosbaar in alcohol en olie, maar onoplosbaar in water. Het wordt gebruikt in traditioneel Indiaas eten onder de naam Ratan Jot en voegt zijn rode kleur toe aan sommige versies van Curry. Het wordt ook als groente gebruikt.
