Echinacea is a species of flowering plant in the North American sunflower family. It is native to eastern North America and occurs to some extent wild in many eastern and southeastern parts of the United States and in the Canadian province of Ontario. It is more common in the Ozarks and Mississippi. Echinacea is perennial, herbaceous (up to 120 cm (47 in) and 25 cm (10 in) wide) at maturity. Depending on the climate, it blooms all spring to summer. Coniferous heads are usually, but not always, purple in the wild.
