Turmeric(Curcuma longa) is a yellow-flowered, large-leaved, perennial herbaceous plant in the ginger (Zingiberaceae) family. It is also known as Indian saffron. Its homeland is South Asia. Its other names are turmeric, saffron root, yellow dye, turmeric, and Indian saffron. It grows in the tropical regions of Asia, primarily in Pakistan, India, China, and Bangladesh. The main underground roots of the plant are egg- or pear-shaped. The lateral roots are finger-shaped. The upper surface of the rhizomes is yellowish, while the inner surface is yellow. It has a bitter taste.
