-The hazelnut tree is a small tree that grows to a height of 6 to 12 meters.
-Hazelnuts have round, green leaves with double-toothed edges. Both sides are covered with fine hairs.
-Hazelnuts are a monoecious plant with individual male and female flowers developing on the same tree. Male flowers are yellow. Female flowers are tiny and red.
-Hazelnuts are wind-borne plants. Wind carries pollen to the female flowers in winter. Once the fruit begins to develop, the pollen remains dormant for 7 to 8 months (until May or June).
