Willow Grass

Its Latin name is 'Fumaria Officinalis'. It derives from the Latin word 'fumus', meaning 'ground scent'. It is from the poppy family. Its homeland is Southern Europe, North Africa, and Turkestan. It grows naturally in almost every region of Turkey. It appears to bend towards the ground, unable to support its bluish-green, multi-forked leaves. It is an annual plant that grows easily in gardens, fields, and grasslands.

Between May and July, its beautiful white, pink, or purple flowers bloom. The flowers are clustered at the ends of branches in clusters. Its fruits are tiny, spherical, and single-seeded.

The use of sahtere herb dates back to the ancient Egyptians, Mesopotamians, and the Roman Empire. There are nearly fifty known species. It is also known in various regions as jaundice herb, ground flower, fox coriander, ground gall, and chickenfoot herb.

The harvesting period is from May to October. The roots, flowers, and leaves are dried in various ways. To prevent the loss of the plant's beneficial oils, it must be dried under appropriate conditions by a specialist.

When properly dried, sahtere herb is stored in a sealed glass jar in a dim, cool, and dry environment, its shelf life is 1 year.

Sahtere Otu

Latince adi 'Fumaria Officinalis'dir. Latince 'yer kokusu' anlamina gelen 'fumus' kelimesinden türemistir. Gelincikgiller familyasindandir. Anavatani Güney Avrupa, Kuzey Afrika ve Türkistan'dir. Ülkemizde hemen hemen her bölgede dogal kosullarda yetisir. Mavimsi yesil renkteki çok çatalli yapraklarini tasiyamayarak yerlere dogru egilir bir görünümdedir. Bahçelerde, tarlalarda ve otluk alanlarda rahatlikla yetisen tek yillik bir bitkidir.

Mayis ve Temmuz aylari arasinda beyaz, pembe ya da mor renkli güzellikte çiçekler açar. Çiçekleri dallarin uç kisimlarinda salkim gibi toplanmis demetler halindedir. Meyveleri minik, küre seklinde ve tek tohumludur.

Sahtere otunun kullanimi Eski Misir'lilar, Mezopotamya ve Roma imparatorlugu dönemlerine kadar dayanir. Bilinen elliye yakin türü vardir. Çesitli yörelerde sarilik otu, yer çiçegi, tilki kisnisi, yer safrasi ve tavukayagi otu olarak da bilinir.

Toplanma süresi Mayis ayindan Ekim ayina kadardir. Kökleri, çiçekleri ve yapraklari farkli sekilde kurutulur. Bitkinin bilesimindeki faydali yaglarin kalitesinin düsmemesi için mutlaka uzman bir kisi tarafindan uygun sartlarda kurutulmasi gerekir.
