The plant known as Devil's Claw originates from Africa and grows in the hot deserts of South Africa. Devil's Claw, which grows in clayey or sandy soils, is a plant from the sesame family that prefers arid climates. It has red flowers. The plant's roots are 10-20 cm thick and 30-70 cm long, with a main root that extends 50-100 cm deep and 100-200 cm laterally. It also has occasional tubers 4-8 cm thick and 15-25 cm long, with a dark or dark red exterior. Because its roots resemble a claw, it is known as "Devil's Claw" in English.
