Organic Pine Honey (Extracted Pine Honey)
Pine honey is one of the most well-known and preferred honeydew honey varieties.
Pine honey, which we are accustomed to seeing as extracted honey, is widely produced in Mugla and the coastal regions of the Mediterranean. It is obtained from the secretion of the insect called basra, which lives in the red pine trees of Mugla, and therefore is classified as secretion honey. Because pine honey is separated from its honeycombs, it's one of the first honeys that comes to mind when one thinks of extracted honey. Pine honey is mostly produced in Mugla in our country, which is why it's also known as the region's local honey. Other common names for pine honey are Mugla honey or Mugla pine honey. Production generally begins in August, the last month of summer, and continues until the end of April.
How is Pine Honey Produced?
The Basra beetle sucks the sap of the pine tree and leaves a secretion. A food chain is created through a cycle that occurs within ecological balance and harmony. This secretion, rich in proteins, minerals, and enzymes, is then collected by honeybees and carried back to the hive. The secretions stored in the honeycomb cells not only meet the bees' nutritional needs but also transform into delicious honey. Pine honey is filtered using physical methods to become extracted honey. Pine honey that has been filtered without pasteurization and heat treatments can be considered raw honey.
Properties of Pine Honey
