The gold of the Incas is legendary. Finds of art and cultural objects testify that metal processing on the American continent began in present-day Peru. In de jaren tachtig heeft men in de VS de noot en de daaruit gewonnen olie onderzocht en was het verbaasd welke ingrediënten erin zitten. Sindsdien is het duidelijk dat beide het potentieel tot superfood hebben. Vooral de uit de zaden gewonnen olie heeft een zeer hoog aandeel essentiële vetzuren en is een van de beste plantaardige oliën die er zijn.
