Carob (Ceratonia siliqua) belongs to the butterfly family. Its seeds were once used as a unit of measurement and gave their name to the "carat." The pulp inside the pods is rich in sugar. It is a good thickener. Unfortunately, we are prohibited from publishing information and characteristics of the plants, as Regulation (EC) No 1924 2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 December 2006 and Royal Decree of 29 August 1997, Article 5bis, inserted by Royal Decree No. 5 86 of KE 2003-05-1997, Article 4, in force since 18-07-2003, and Royal Decree No. 82 of KE 2006-08-05 82, Article 2, in force since 20-10-2006, on nutrition and health claims made on foods, prohibit it.
