Konpeito sugar candy from Kasugai are tasty little sugar sweets made famous in Japan, with a growing popularity across the world. The name Konpeito actually derives from the Portugese word 'confeito' which is a type of candy. Refined sugar used to be very rare in 16th century Japan so Konpeito was expensive and hard to come by, so nowadays they are given as gifts. As Konpeito are covered in little nubs it is great fun rolling them around in your mouth and because they are made primarily of sugar, you can suck on them until they slowly crumble in your mouth. Or if you can't resist the temptation to bite on them then they can be chewed too, as they're not too hard to bite down on. Although they are made of sugar they aren't too sweet but due to their size and star-like shape they are addictive! They come in handy packaging which can reseal shut if you somehow manage to not polish them all off in one sitting, and the packaging is really cute and colourful! This product is a traditional Japanese sugar candy called konpeito. These candies are made from sugar syrup, and honey is also added to provide a unique flavor. Konpeito is a tiny sugar lump repeatedly coated with sugar-based syrup. To produce this snack, the sugar lumps are heated slowly in a large inclined rotating pot called "dora" and by applying the syrup drop by drop, it eventually turns to a ball with a number of horned prongs. Enjoy the mildly sweet flavor of sugar and the aroma of honey. You can also enjoy this snack by adding it to tea, coffee, plain yogurt, or ice cream. Suitable for Vegans. Handy resealable packaging with tear-off top and cute designs. Eaten by soot sprites as seen in Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away. Colourful knobbly textured Japanese star shaped candy.
