Characteristics of Chestnut Honey
Chestnut trees, which begin to bloom in early summer, in June and July, are a delicious food source for worker bees. When the flowers begin to bloom, worker bees enter a period of intense work. Honeybees nourish themselves with the pollen, nectar, and secretions they collect, while also facilitating pollination. Chestnut honey has physical properties that differ from other types of honey and can be distinguished visually. Briefly, its general physical properties can be summarized as follows: It has a distinctive aroma, combining sweet, bitter, and astringent flavors, and the chestnut flavor is strongly felt when eaten. Chestnut honey is dark brown in color and has a thick consistency. Because it is a thick, heavy-flowing honey, it has a high viscosity. Its pH is higher than that of flower honeys. It crystallizes more slowly than other honeys. Because its fructose content is higher than that of glucose, crystallization is slower. The granules formed as a result of crystallization are fine-structured and can be easily restored to their original state using a double-boiler. It contains twice the amount of iron compared to flower honey. It contains vitamins B and C, making it one of the honeys with the highest vitamin content. Other common names for chestnut honey are bitter honey or mad honey. The price of chestnut honey varies depending on whether it meets the above-mentioned specifications, undergoes quality control, and adheres to organic production principles. Honey that meets all these criteria is considered genuine chestnut honey. We can confidently choose honey that has received an organic farming certificate and whose analysis reports are available. Our Egriçayir organic chestnut honey is produced by our contracted beekeepers in the chestnut forests of the Black Sea region and is certified organic. It is filtered in its purest form without any heat treatment or pasteurization, and reaches your table from honey jars. You can find detailed analysis reports, ingredients, and the region where it was produced for our highest quality honey on our product page.
Benefits of Chestnut Honey
One of the most important characteristics of genuine honey is the presence of the enzyme proline. Chestnut honey also contains this enzyme and other components essential for high-quality honey. Its high content of iron (Fe), potassium (K), and vitamin C and B complex vitamins makes it extra rich compared to other honeys. This feature enhances the benefits of chestnut honey. One kilogram of nutrient-rich chestnut honey contains approximately 7.97 mg of iron, 0.44 mg of copper, and 4.85 grams of potassium.
Things to Know About the Use of Chestnut Honey
