Therefore, those who cannot consume it pure can swallow one teaspoon of half frankincense oil and half honey. This use should be continued for 21 days without interruption. The instructions for use were taken from people who have used this product and recommended it to their friends. Frankincense oil is a product of the tree known as the sweetgum tree and widely found in Köycegiz that has a widely used area of assistance in traditional treatment. The process of producing sweetgum oil involves collecting, boiling, and pressing the sap and oil produced by stripping the veins that run vertically through the tree trunk. The Forest Management Manager marks and paints the trees in the production area. This designation requires that the diameter of the tree's trunk be greater than 15 cm, and that the tree is unburned, healthy, and free of fungi. The extraction process of sweetgum oil is carried out by skilled workers from surrounding forest villages. Production begins with bark stripping towards the end of March. The outer bark is chipped off the tree, measuring 50-70 cm in height and 10 cm in width. This process is called "roasting." After roasting, a 4-5 cm wide, 3-4 mm deep vein is cut along the reddened surface in late April or early May. This process is called "eye pulling." One to two weeks after the vein is opened, the wound surface, called the "sur" (wall), is scraped off with a spoon. The sur is a blackish layer. The sur removal process is completed in the first week of June. Production begins 15-20 days after the sur removal process, when the veins fill with oil. The oil and bark chips accumulated in the veins are scraped off with a tool called a spoon, without changing the vein size. This process, called "sur arkasi," is completed in early July. Every fortnight, the sweetgum oil accumulated on the wound is scraped off with a spoon and collected in hair bags called margun. This process, called "sefer," continues until early October. Between late October and mid-November, the lower-quality oil collected in the veins, flowing to the base of the tree and seeping between the bark, called "karakap," is also collected but not mixed with the other oil. The mixture of chips and oil collected in the hair bags is placed in hot water in a boiling cauldron and boiled for 2-3 minutes. The boiled woodchip and oil mixture is transported to the press. After pressing, a small amount of the water and oil mixture is drawn into concrete basins equipped with a strainer at the inlet through a chute. The water collected on the oil in the basin is drained off through a suitable chute or device. The sweetgum oil in the basin is filled into tin cans under the supervision of the Forest Management Director, tightly sealed, and transported to storage areas designated by the Forest Administration. The frankincense resulting from the pressing is dried and stored separately for marketing. The place, date, and time for the sale of sweetgum oil and frankincense are announced by the Köycegiz Operations Directorate. The sale is conducted by auction in accordance with State Tender Law No. 2886, in the presence of a convened commission.
