Wolfgang Peter: The story behind the Klippfixx.

"Someone who has only one arm available needs a second to cut their fingernails" says Wolfgang Peter and smiles into the camera.

I had to learn everything: First of all, talking – that was the most difficult. Then: reading, calculating, writing with the left hand, at all the complete reorientation from right to left in all practical activities, the ability to focus on something, walking and much more. In a three-year rehabilitation at a neurological clinic, I gained the chance to learn all of this again with the support of dedicated therapists. This learning process continues to this day. But there are also things that are no longer possible for me: Nail cutting is part of this, because my right arm is paralysed, so I can no longer use nail scissors or file.

For such everyday things, I didn't want to depend on help. I wanted to live self-determined - autonomous and independent. Therefore, during my time in the rehabilitation clinic, I started developing a foot operated nail clippers that are easy to use. The prototype made of wood, whose construction I have further developed several times, was finally the godfather for the KlippFixx - I am very happy about this.

In addition to stroke patients, the aid can also be used by other people with disabilities such as rheumatism, osteoarthritis or with one arm. The KlippFIXX was developed in therapies with neurologists and occupational therapists. The foot pedal can be adjusted to different table heights and the holder fits almost anywhere. So everyone can cut their fingernails on almost all tables on their own even after a stroke. Whether in the bathroom, in the kitchen or in the living room.
