Birch bark is harvested in the spring from the main trunk and thick branches of the birch tree and air-dried. Birch bark contains camphor, phytosterols, tannins, bitter substances, essential oils, and resins. In natural healing, baths with birch bark or birch bark tea are used. To prepare the tea, pour 1 to 2 teaspoons of birch bark over 250 ml of boiling water and let it steep for 10 minutes. For a birch bark bath, boil 5 tablespoons of birch bark in 1 liter of water. Add the birch bark to the bathwater. The birch bark comes from controlled sources in Scandinavia. Birch bark is free of pollutants and lasts at least 24 months.
