Geranium root (Latin Pelargonium sidoides) is a very old South African plant considered to belong to the genus Pelargonium. The traditional name for geranium root is geranium root. It is believed that the name "Umckaloabo" comes from the Zulu people. However, this did not refer to the plant itself, but rather to the South Africans who obtained remedies from the root of the buckaloabo tree to treat illnesses. In the 19th century, Charles Henry Stevens of England was cured of tuberculosis with extracts of medicinal pelargonium, and the plant found its way to Europe. Hildegard of Bingen also used medicinal pelargonium.
