Violet is suitable for use as violet verbena tea, violet tea, or for making violet verbena tinctures. Violet is harvested from the March violet (Viola odorata) in spring and air-dried. Violet contains saponins, bitter substances, essential oils, mucilage, glycosides, salicylic acid, and oratin. Verbena is used as a tea. To prepare violet verbena tea, 1 teaspoon of violet is poured over 250 ml of boiling water and left to steep for 5 minutes. Hildegard von Bingen recommends a violet wine for this, 15 g of violet are boiled with 1 liter of white wine, 10 g of ground galganton root, and 15 g of ground licorice root, then rinsed and bottled. The violet comes from controlled cultivation and is free of harmful substances. It can be stored for at least 24 months. Use: food.
