St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum L.) is a plant from the Hyperaceae family and grows naturally in temperate and tropical climates around the world. St. John's wort is also called binbirdelikotu, kiliçotu, kanotu, yaraotu, kuzukiran in our country. Its Latin name is Hypericum perforatum.St. John's Wort, a perennial herb known for its yellow flowers, has many species. There are nearly 100 species growing in our country, and 42 of them are endemic, meaning they grow only in Türkiye. St. John's Wort species contain a large number of secondary metabolites from at least 11 different classes, including naphthodianthrones, phloroglucinol derivatives, flavonoids, organic acids, essential oils, amino acids, xanthones, tannins, proxyanidins and other water-soluble compounds.
