Jojoba Oil
Originating in the deserts of the USA and known as Jojoba,Simmondsia chinensisis the only member of the Simmondsiaceae family. Jojoba is a unique plant in many ways [1].
A colorless, odorless liquid wax is produced by cold pressing of jojoba seeds. Although known as Jojoba oil, this liquid is actually a waxy structure. This liquid has a unique chemical structure in the plant world [2].
Approximately ¼ of the waxy liquid consists of straight-chain monoesters of C-20 and C-22 acids and two double-bonded alcohols. The main fatty acids found in Jojoba oil are cis-11-eicosenoic acid and cis-13-docosenoic (C-22, erucic) acid. Among the more than 250,000 identified plant species, Jojoba is the only plant that produces significant amounts of liquid wax esters, such as the natural repair esters produced by human sebaceous glands (sebum). Therefore, it can be used as a natural softener for all skin types and hair. The liquid is stable and resistant to both oxidation and acidity. Therefore, it is used as a carrier substance for substances sensitive to oxidation, such as vitamin A [1].
