It is a perennial plant with white and yellow flowers that grows up to 70 cm. It is native to India and Malaysia. It has a strong aroma and a slightly bitter taste. While not used much in Turkish cuisine, it holds a significant place in world cuisine, especially in Indian cuisine. It is generally used in sherbet, soft drinks, and liqueurs. Dried or fresh, it is included in almost all Chinese and Japanese herbal recipes. It contains high amounts of fiber, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, zinc, vitamins C, E, and B, and antioxidants. Because ginger is a fibrous root, it is also occasionally used in the manufacture of goods. You can also add it to fruit tarts, some marmalades, cakes, and dry biscuits. It also adds flavor to soups, legume dishes, potatoes, rice, and salads. It can also be added to grilled meats.

Beyaz ve sari çiçekleri olan ve 70 cm'e kadar uzayan çok yillik bir bitkidir. Anavatani Hindistan ve Malezyadir. Kuvvetli kokulu ve biraz acimsi lezzetlidir. Türk mutfaginda pek kullanilmasa da dünyada özellikle Hint mutfaginda büyük yer kaplar. Genellikle serbet, mesrubat ve likör yapiminda kullanilmaktadir. Kurutulmus ya da taze olarak neredeyse tüm Çin ve Japon bitkisel reçetelerinde yer almaktadir. Yüksek miktarda lif, kalsiyum, demir, magnezyum, manganez, fosfor, potasyum, sondum, çinko, C, E ve B vitaminleri ile antioksidan içerir. Zencefil lifli bir kök oldugundan zaman zaman esya yapiminda da kullanilmaktadir. Ayrica meyve tartlari, bazi marmelatlar, kek ve kuru bisküvilere de ilave edebilirsiniz. Çorbalar, bakliyat yemekleri, patates, pilav ve salatalara da lezzet verir. Izgara etlere de ilave edilir.
