This beautiful perennial herb with a very elegant upright habit is hairy and leafy. It has a creeping rhizome and measures from fifty centimeters to one and a half meters. It is probably its haughty appearance that has led to its being called meadowsweet. The stem is reddish, glabrous and angular. The flowers are multiple branched false umbels, very fragrant, yellowish white. The leaf is imparipinnate, dark green, glabrous above, felted white below. The terminal leaflet is palmate, divided into three or five parts, the lateral leaflets form two to five pairs along the petiole. The fruits are rolled into a helix. C'est probablement son allure altière qui l'a fait appeler reine-des-prés. La tige est rougeâtre, glabre et anguleuse. Les fleurs sont de multiples fausses ombelles ramifiées, très odorantes, d'un blanc jaunâtre. La feuille est imparipennée, vert sombre, glabre au-dessus, feutrée de blanc en dessous. La foliole terminale est palmée, divisée en trois ou cinq parties, les folioles latérales forment de deux à cinq paires le long du pétiole. Les fruits sont enroulés en hélice.
