CLINICAL USE:

Laxative

The castor oil metabolite ricinoleic acid activates intestinal and uterine smooth muscle cells via EP(3) prostanoid receptors. These findings define the cellular and molecular mechanism underlying the pharmacological effects of castor oil and explain the laxative effect of the EP (3) receptor.1.2.

Birth facilitator

In one study, there was a significant increase in the rate of onset of labor in the castor oil group compared to the control group.3.

It is used for mixing purposes in the pharmaceutical industry.4.

POSIOLOGY: 1 2.5 ml orally is recommended internally for the protection of general health.

SAFETY CONTRAINDICATION: The Expert Committee on Food Additives determined an acceptable daily intake of Castor oil (in humans) up to 0.7 mg kg (final report on the safety evaluation of Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil (2007)).

The oil obtained from the seeds of the plant by cold pressing mainly contains 90-95 Ricinoleic acid. It contains linoleic and oleic acids, as well as vitamin E.

From an aromatherapy perspective:

It strengthens eyelashes and hair with its high vitamin E and is among the herbal oils that help prevent hair loss.

It is used in oral and gum hygiene with the ricinoleic acid it contains.

Internally, it helps relieve chronic constipation problems.

Castor oil, which helps maintain the elastic structure of the skin, has an effect on preventing and reducing wrinkles. It has a very viscous structure and is used in small amounts for very dry, eczematous skin problems.

Due to its dense structure, it creates an oily feeling. To alleviate this, it should be mixed with coconut, jojoba or argan oils.
