CLINICAL USE

Sperm production

In one study, a significant increase in testosterone levels was seen in the sesame treatment group compared to the diabetic group. Reports state that decreased testosterone levels and gonadal abnormalities cause inadequate sperm production.

Neuroprotective

In conclusion, oral administration of sesamin or crude sesame oil extract was neuroprotective in reducing ischemic damage in experimental MCA CCA-occluded gerbils. The present results provide experimental data to support the potency of sesamin and sesamolin for neuroprotection against hypoxia or brain injury. 2.

Oral hygiene with oil pulling

One study compared the efficacy of a probiotic and chlorhexidine-based mouthwash versus conventional oil pulling therapy with sesame oil over a 30-day period. Compared to the probiotic mouthwash, oil pulling therapy and chlorhexidine mouthwash were more accepted. Sesame oil may be a suitable alternative to chlorhexidine. 3.
