Plantago ovata, also known as Indian plantain, is a species of plantain native to India. The French pharmacopoeia refers to it as ispaghula, while the term psyllium is used for another species of plantain (Plantago afra L.), with brown seeds, sometimes called "Provence plantain." It is often referred to online, using the anglicism "psyllium" (or "blond psyllium" to distinguish it from the true French psyllium), as the English call it simply "psyllium." The term "psyllium" in the French pharmacopoeia refers to the seed or the seed husk. Originally, the term "psyllium" encompassed three distinct species: Plantago psyllium, Plantago indica (synonym Plantago arenaria), and Plantago ovata. Its country of origin gives it the name Indian plantain. It is also cultivated in Pakistan, but India dominates the global market. Its common name in India is Isabgol. It can also thrive in temperate regions. INGREDIENTS 500g of organic blond psyllium husks.
