Castor oil Plant:
It grows naturally or is cultivated in areas with Mediterranean climate. It is a plant of tropical and subtropical regions. In its natural habitat, it is a perennial small tree. Those cultivated are annual and summer. The development period of the castor oil plant is 140–180 days. Its seeds are white-yellowish, brown, red, black, egg-shaped or round and have regular and beautiful shapes. Its leaves are hand-shaped, long-stemmed and large. The leaf edges are serrated. Its seeds can be round or ovoid. The seed is covered with bright and colorful spots. Since the seeds of the Castor Oil tree are poisonous, it is dangerous to use them directly. Castor oil obtained by squeezing the seeds is used. This poisonous substance does not pass into the oil during the squeezing stage.
The castor oil plant is cultivated in many countries and regions around the world for commercial purposes. For example, it is cultivated in the states of Texas, New Mexico and Midwestern, etc. in America. The largest producing countries of castor oil are Brazil and India.
The places where it grows in Türkiye are generally the Mediterranean and Southeastern Anatolia regions, but especially the provinces of Adana, Aydin, Antalya, Bursa, Diyarbakir and Elazig. Although Türkiye's environmental and soil conditions are suitable for castor oil cultivation, unfortunately, castor oil is not cultivated much in our country. In Türkiye, the castor oil plant grows spontaneously on roadsides and in gardens as an ornamental plant. This plant is only cultivated in small areas and its cultivation is quite simple.
Castor oil:
The oil obtained from its seeds is a colorless-pale yellow oil with a slight odor and a thick consistency. It is easily soluble in alcohol. Since the oil is difficult to digest, it is not used as a cooking oil. It is widely used in medicine.
Castor oil is one of the few oils formed from very pure glycerins found in nature. However, the toxic substance (Ricin Alkaloid) found in the protein of castor oil can cause poisoning in humans and animals.
There are many areas where castor oil is used. Many of its products, from its yellowish or colorless oil to its seed and pulp, are used.
The amount of oil in its seeds varies under different conditions, but is generally between 35-55 . Among the oil components, ricinoleic acid is the most abundant fatty acid with 84-91 and oleic acid is 3.1-5.9 . The composition of the seed contains 50-60 crude oil, 10-17 crude protein, 5-11 nitrogen-free essences, and 3-4 ash.
No chemicals are used in order not to lose such beneficial content. Our products contain only and only castor oil. Products with good agricultural certification are used. No process shortening, diluting, coloring, consistency odor enhancing chemicals are used. It is 100 castor oil.
The Importance of Cold Pressing Method in Vegetable Oils:
The castor oil plant contains rich fatty acids and other valuable compounds. For these reasons, the first priority in vegetable oil production is to minimize the loss of beneficial content. In the cold pressing method, no heat treatment is applied, only physical processing is applied, so there is no loss of content.
The antioxidants, phenolic compounds, phosphatides, carotenoids and phytosterols in the oils obtained with this method can be prepared for use without undergoing any changes. Thus, in cases where the human body cannot produce itself or when supplements are required due to the scarcity of certain substances, the safest source we can resort to is the oils obtained with the cold pressing method.
As Tayf Herbal, our own oils do not undergo any chemical processes such as coloring, acid removal, deodorization addition… No dilution or mixing process is done. After the seed is put into the cold pressing machine, we bottle whatever it gives us and send it to you.
