What is VIFOLIC? Vifolic Capsules are formulated to provide vitamin and mineral supplements for both breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding mothers during pregnancy and the postpartum period. They are also useful for supplementing the expectant mother's nutritional reserves before conception. Important VIFOLIC Ingredients and Functions: Folic Acid: Also known as folate, folic acid is a B vitamin important for pregnant women. Before and during pregnancy, 400 micrograms of folic acid are needed daily to prevent major birth defects of the fetal brain and spine, called neural tube defects. Neural tube defects develop in the first 28 days after conception, before many women even know they are pregnant. Because approximately half of pregnancies are unplanned, it is recommended that women of childbearing age take 400 micrograms (mcg) of folic acid daily, starting before conception and continuing through the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Vitamin B12: Vitamin B12 is responsible for activating folic acid, converting it through various reactions into tetrahydrofolate, the form the body can use. Omega-3 fatty acids: Omega-3 fatty acids (especially DHA and EPA) are essential fatty acids that cannot be produced in the body and must be obtained from an external source. Adequate consumption of omega-3 fatty acids is vital during pregnancy, as they are critical building blocks of the baby's brain and retina. Omega-3 fatty acids may also play a role in preventing premature birth and postpartum depression. Iron: Iron is used by the body to produce hemoglobin, which carries oxygen to organs and tissues. Iron also helps carry oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body—and to the baby. Iodine: Iodine is essential for healthy brain development in the baby. In women, iodine needs increase significantly during pregnancy to ensure an adequate supply for the fetus. The treatment guideline published by the Turkish Endocrinology and Metabolism Association in 2012 recommends taking 150 µg of iodine supplements daily throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. Vitamin D3: Vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy helps improve maternal vitamin D levels and may provide support to reduce the risk of preeclampsia, low birth weight, and premature birth. Vitamin D3 may also be beneficial for the baby's bone development. VIFOLIC Ingredients Nutritional Values: Directions for Use: For adults.
