En 1951, le naturaliste Ulrich Baensch immatricule la société Tropenhaus (qui deviendra Tetra) au registre de Hanovre. Deux ans plus tard, il crée le laboratoire BioMin, dans lequel il peut tester et continuer à développer ses produits.
