Farm Features:Las Calaveras is a family farm established in 1986 by Carlos Alonso Castillo, producing high-quality (85 points) coffee on 12 hectares. In addition to coffee, they also grow bananas for family consumption. The farm operates in harmony with the environment, using organic matter and chemical fertilizers as nutritional supplements. Coffee processing waste is recycled as organic fertilizer. Carlos Alonso also conducts experimental afforestation projects to improve water retention and prevent soil erosion.
Farmer Story:Las Calaveras's story begins in 1986, when Carlos Alonso Castillo purchased his first plot of land with money he saved from working on nearby farms. Today, two generations of coffee producers aim to reach diverse markets by producing high-quality coffees.
Varieties:Carlos Alonso uses Brazilian varieties with excellent cupping quality, as well as the Catuai and Pacas varieties from El Salvador. These varieties produce superior quality coffees under the region's specific climatic conditions.
