In small doses, horse sorrel root preparations have an astringent effect, while in larger doses they have a laxative effect. They also have hemostatic, hypotensive, and anthelmintic effects, and stimulate the muscles of the large intestine. They are used internally as an astringent and laxative (depending on the dose) for gastrointestinal diseases (enteritis, colitis, atonic constipation), hemorrhoids, and anal fissures. They also act as a hemostatic and anthelmintic agent, as well as to improve the formation and secretion of bile and prevent hypo- and avitaminosis. Externally, horse sorrel infusions and decoctions are used for gargling for inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity (tonsillitis, ulcerative stomatitis, etc.). In folk medicine, horse sorrel decoction is also used to treat skin diseases.

В малых дозах препараты из корней щавеля конского оказывают вяжущее действие, а в больших - слабительное. Они также имеют кровоостанавливающий, гипотензивный, противоглистный эффект и стимулируют мускулатуру толстого кишечника. Применяются внутрь как вяжущее и слабительное средство (в зависимости от дозы) при заболеваниях желудочно-кишечного тракта (энтеритах, колитах, атонических запорах), геморрое, трещинах заднего прохода, как кровоостанавливающее и противоглистное средство, а также для улучшения образования и выделения желчи и профилактики гипо- и авитаминоза. Наружно настой и отвары конского щавеля используются для полосканий при воспалительных заболеваниях полости рта (ангина, язвенные стоматиты и др.). В народной медицине отваром конского щавеля лечат также кожные болезни.
