Het verschil tussen de 3 type sportdranken zit in de osmolariteit. Dit geeft de concentratie van deeltjes (zoals koolhydraten en mineralen) in de sportdrank aan, ook wel de deeltjesdichtheid genoemd. Een hoge osmolariteit betekent dat er veel deeltjes aanwezig zijn in de sportdrank en dit heeft een effect op de opnamesnelheid van de sportdrank. Een sportdrank met een lage osmolariteit wordt sneller opgenomen door je lichaam dan een sportdrank met een hoge osmolariteit.

Isotone sportdrank

Een isotone sportdrank heeft ongeveer een gelijke concentratie deeltjes (osmolariteit) als het lichaamsvocht. Een isotone sportdrank, zoals Iso-lemon of Isotoon, bevat gemiddeld 4-8 gram koolhydraten per 100ml.
