It appears to look like two tubes twisted around each other, but is in fact one single s-shaped strand twisted to form a spiral, like interlaced string. Gemelli looks so much like two tubes twisted together, that its name is derived from the Italian word for "twins". - Prepare and Use: Cooking time 11 minutes. Bring a large pan of water to the boil and add salt if required. Keeping the water at a rolling boil add the amount of pasta needed.
