Our rich Greek heritage in the natural sponge industry dates back to the early 1900’s in our home town of Tarpon Springs Florida, affectionately known as Sponge Capitol of the world. Greek immigrants, experts in the art of diving brought their trade and families to Tarpon Springs to create a new industry and life. The warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico are known to provide the highest quality natural sponges. Sponge harvesting remains virtually unchanged for over 100 years. Divers cut natural sponges from the sea floor and auction their catch when they return from sea.
